How to grow your business

Top 10 Benefits of Flexible/ Home Working for Employers?

As an employee there are many benefits to working from home such as more time with the family, reduction in stress and less time commuting, however you might be wondering what the benefits are for the employer?

Read about the new UK law on Home Working / Flexible Working for all employees

A new law has been passed as of the 30th June 2014 introducing changes to the existing UK home working/flexible working laws, extending them beyond employees with children to all employees.  Some employers have been concerned about how this will affect production and the effect on their businesses.

We have decided to focus on the many benefits that home working and/or flexible hours can offer your business.

Top 10 Benefits of Home Working / Remote Working for Employers

The top 10 benefits of home working/flexible working for businesses are;

1.  Increased Productivity

Many studies taken place confirms that employees are more productive when working from home.  British Telecom (BT) has experienced a 20% increase in productivity thanks to telecommuting; they have over 15,000 home working employees out of 92,000 employees.

2.  Empowered Staff

Gaining trust with your employees who work from home makes them feel valued and empowered, feeling valued makes staff more committed and prove themselves to ensure the trust remains intact.

Staff should be paid for their skills, not their time.  Making your staff know that they are valued makes them feel empowered, but also more responsible for their output.

3.  Improved Staff Retention

Retaining committed staff is vital to any business and stability can only be beneficial to the company image. A large staff turnover can tarnish any company image.

4.  Brand’s Image

The benefits from being committed to CSR, happier employees, potentially extended opening hours, and access to a wider talent pool for employees, your brand’s overall image will likely improve.  You will have happy customers who will receive better and more efficient service.

5.  Expand Your Talent Pool

Working from home opens your business to being able to expand your talent pool potential thus being able to recruit talented individuals nationwide and not just locally. The positive effect on your business will be seen in increased productivity.

Perhaps consider a flexible start time enabling the employees miss out the worst of the traffic and are more productive at their desks.

6.  Extended Opening Hours

Many customers would like to consult outside the office hours for convenience, by encouraging flexible working hours the employee is likely to have no problem accommodating customers after hours.

By offering flexible hours or start times could mean your business can now be officially open for longer working hours in a day, or even at the weekends, at no additional cost to your business reducing overtime costs.

7.  Reduce Absenteeism and Tardiness

Many large companies have both found that flexible home working results in employees taking unnecessary time off and fewer sick days and happier employees who are more willing to commit to their employer.

8.  Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Every business must be committed to CSR and flexible working hours will assist greatly by reducing your business’s environmental impact, saving around 4000 kilograms of pollutants per employee per year in travel.

Your business is required to be socially responsible to its customers, staff, suppliers, general public, and the outside world.  Taking your business CSR seriously is a great marketing angle; customers support businesses that are seen to be socially responsible.

9.  Reduce Costs

Every business aims to reduce costs whilst not compromising on the productivity of the business. By offering a flexible work environment makes your business more appealing, and makes potential recruits more interested in working for you.  Apart from the salary, you’ll likely reduce your overheads, and potentially even downsize your office and its costs.

10.  Growing your Business

Growing and focussing on your business is of better value than having to manage your staff, contend with office politics and distractions. You can focus on the important aspects of the business.

Technology can make flexible and home working much easier

Plenty of entertainment and amusements in London

Named after a leper hospital dedicated to the St James the Less that was disbanded in 1532, the property a marshland called Eton College was commissioned by Henry VIII and converted to St James Park and Palace. After the English Commonwealth period and after Charles I spent his last sleepless night in St James Palace before his execution to which later his son Charles I refurbished the palace along with its park. St James Park is 23 hectares (57 acres) and one of the oldest Royal parks in London. To the west of the palace is the Buckingham Palace, St James Palace and The Mall at the north, Birdcage Walk to the east and Horse Guards to the east.

London is adorned with many parks for strolls, entertainment and amusement. Amongst other parks in the same vicinity,Apartments West London recommends some other parks that can give you similar delightful experience are Hyde Park, Battersea Park an ancient duelling park now famous for its crops and Holland Park. London is packed with interesting historical marks and stories, hence whilst browsing through our five star self-catering accommodation.

There is quite a lot of breath taking views to take in at St James Park. The park has a small lake called St James Park Lake that has two islands namely, West Island and Duck Island. Duck Island receives it names for the large collection of waterfowls. The first gift of birds to the St James Park was a colony of pelicans by the Russian Ambassador in 1664 – the famous colony still exists. St James Park Lake has a Blue Bridge that showcases a spectacular west view of the Buckingham Palace framed by trees. The east view from the Blue Bridge looks upon the Swire fountain north of Duck Island, past the lake and upon the grounds known as Horse Guards Parade along with the Horse Guards Building and the Old War Office whilst the Whitehall Court is at the back.  The south of the Duck Island is the Tiffany fountain situated on top of the Pelican Rock and when past the lake is the famous London Eye and The Shard. Apartments near Westfield London suggests visiting the London Eye to experience spectacular views of London at great heights.  St James Park is close to a chain of parks; Green Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.

Henry VIII bought the land initially Eton College for Cardinal Wolsey with intentions to turn Whitehall then called as York Palace into dwelling of extravagance for the king. On the accession of James I to the throne the park was ordered to be drained and filled with exotic animals including camels, elephants and crocodiles. The park was opened to the public when Prince Charles II returned from France after his exile. The park had a formal and French allure as he was taken up by the extensive French gardens during his exile in France, it was speculated that the park was designed by Andre Mollet. Charles II added a feature by adding extra 38 meters to entertain guests and mistresses, this brought about a lot of mischief to the park as the poet, John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester wrote in his poem, A Ramble in St James Park. Just as many London’s famous tourist attractions find its way into movies, books and poems, St James Park played its part.

Apartments West London is close to many tube stations, the ones closest to the park are St James Park, Victoria and Westminster. Be it a transit, business or family trip that brings you to London, our self-catering accommodation is equipped to suit any type of travel.

Lose weight now and look and feel fabulous

The low carb, high fat diet rules, banting

Tim Noakes eating plan was first prescribed in 1861 by a Harley Street surgeon Mr William Harvey with great success to a corpulent London undertaker, Mr William Banting, thus it is more appropriately named the Harvey/Banting diet.

In time the term to 'bant' was introduced into the English language. It referred to the use of this low carbohydrate diet for weight loss.

Indeed 'Banting' was the standard treatment for weight loss in all the major European and North American medical schools for nearly 100 years until it suddenly went out of fashion after 1959 when it was written out of all the major medical and nutritional textbooks, to be replaced with its polar opposite, the currently popular low fat, high carbohydrate, 'heart healthy' diet.

Dr Robert Atkins re-discovered “banting” in 1974 and his name is now incorrectly used as if he was the first to describe this eating plan.

10 golden rules of Banting

1. Remember: this is not a high protein diet. It's a high fat, medium protein, low carb way of eating

2. Choose real foods that look like what they are, and cook them from scratch

3. Fat is not the enemy. Enjoy it!

4. Eat only when you are hungry; eat until you are satisfied - then stop

5. Don't eat when you're not hungry. You won't die if you occasionally skip a meal you don't feel like eating.

6. Stop snacking. You won't need to - it's just a habit.

7. No sugar. It's an addiction, and it's probably best to go cold turkey. But if you need to make it a transition, substitute with Stevia, Zylitol or Erythritol - NOT artificial sweeteners.

8. No grains of any kind

9. No (or very, very little) fruit. Think of it as a sweet rather than a health snack.

10. Embrace eggs. They're healthy, satisfying and very good for you.

DIY Marquees have a large selection of marquees for sale

Summer is here and the perfect time of the year to host a fabulous party, whether it’s a wedding, work function or a 21st party DIY Marquees for sale has a marquee for every occasion.

I came across some useful information on DIY Marquees site and thought it relevant to share one particular article as this is useful for any party you wish to host.

Tips for Daytime Party Marquees:

Furniture:

Unlike marquees furniture is often too expensive to buy so hiring is usually the best solution

For a formal atmosphere use larger round tables (5ft for seating 8/9, 5ft6in for seating 10)

Use a mixture of smaller tables to create an informal atmosphere.

You can get away with fitting more people in a marquee for a party than for a wedding, a wedding

Requires more space but you can squeeze people up a bit at parties.

A marquee can hold more people standing than seated (generally around 1.5 times the number seated)

but it's  always worth having some seats in rows against the sides of a marquee even if you are

leaving the middle completely clear for standing (or using it as a dance floor area)

For formal seating remember an easel for table plans (or two for larger functions)

Furniture is often scattered around outside the marquee so a weatherproof chair option is popular

(white plastic bistro chairs for example)

Ideally have a marquee just large enough to house everyone (even if it very cramped) in case of

Sudden downpours.

Dance Floors:

Dance floors are only usually required at evening functions

Other:

With our DIY Party Tent if it is light outside it will be light inside so for a daytime only function

lighting is not usually required. In October to April you will need to heat the marquee have

the heating on for an hour before people arrive to ensure they walk in to a wall of warmth

In May to September you might need a heater just to take the chill off in the seating area later

in the evening, think of how your guests will arrive - a simple path of carpet with flower pots

makes an attractive and inviting entrance to the marquee.

You would normally allow one toilet per 40-60 guests. If you don't have enough

available then consider hiring in a luxury toilet unit In general there is less drinking

and therefore you require less toilet facilities for daytime only parties.
