C-Map is delighted to be supporting Pete Goss in his current challenge. Pete and his friend, Paul Larsen, set sail from
Plymouth on Sunday June 11th to face the tough and gruelling Round Britain and Ireland Race, held only once every four years.
The Race is designed to put short-handed sailor's seamanship skills to the test, and is accepted as a unique 2000-mile challenge.
Along the way, there will be four compulsory pit stops, each of 48 hours – at Kinsale, Barra, Lerwick and Lowestoft,
giving competitors time to rest, make repairs and study the next leg's tactics and weather.
The SeaCart 30 yacht they're racing is entitled, 'Cornwall Playing for Success'. This is a charity, of which Pete is a founder and Trustee,
and which specialises in out-of-school-hours education, aimed at raising literacy, numeracy and
IT skills in children who have unrealised potential.
All passage planning will be made via an onboard PC, which will be working in conjunction with C-Map MAX on PC.
Two MegaWide charts have been supplied to cover the whole area.
Pete commented, "The SeaCart 30 is a lightweight, performance multihull and the Round Britain and Ireland Race is a real
test of both boat and sailor alike. We need to rely on clear and accurate charts that are quick and simple to read through
the best lightweight and rugged equipment available. We are very grateful to C-Map for their support and for providing the
information that will enable 'Cornwall Playing for Success' to navigate with ease and confidence."
